“He’s leaving me!” Ashley’s body convulsed with sobs.
Jennifer absently patted her friend’s hand, but couldn’t muster any sympathy.
She realized she was completely devoid of feeling.
“Damn.” She shrugged, but without remorse.
She had left her heart in her other purse.
Better than on your sleeve. Easier to lose it that way.

Every time I change purses, I leave something vital in the other bag. 🙂

She’s not normally heartless, she was just “accessories challenged.”

Hmm. Is Ashley a bit of a drama queen?

I think it seems that way because Jennifer has no emotions at all – she can only observe physical evidence with no implied empathy. (At least that’s what I was aiming for.)

I like the idea of one’s heart as something removable that can be stashed in a drawer, on a shelf, in your other person.

I catch myself saying, “Oh, crap – I changed purses last night and left my credit card/license/work badge/office keys/lip gloss, whatever in my other purse.” What would happen if you realized it was your heart at home in your evening bag?

Thanks! I saw the prompt and immediately thought of that spin – it was fun to “write it out.”
